SI-21: the Next Generation Urban Housing Concept

– Design Development of the Support/Infill System Housings –
In order to create a new urban block concept for the next generation, we think that it is necessary to study new housing systems as high quality social infrastructures that can respond to various changes. Instead of a conventional large-scale development project, small-scale and sustainable development will be an effective urban environmental improvement based on the development of abundant public realms, the improvement of life quality within the natural landscape, and the strengthening of disaster prevention performance.
The Support means a primary skeleton of a building that has over a 100-year durability. This would include the structure, building services and building façade. The Infill means private interior furnishing that is flexible and variable against temporal response and social changes, such as flooring, partitions, ceiling, furniture, etc. The production system itself has to be opened widely to industrial circles by the introduction of Modular Coordination.
