関西国際空港旅客ターミナルビル

― 空港建築への新たなアプローチ ―
関西国際空港旅客ターミナルビル(PTB)(全長1.7km、延床面積290,000㎡)は、ダイナミックな「流れ」の形態を表現している。 そしてその「流れ」のイメージを現実化する手段として「ジオメトリー」を用いた。ジオメトリーにより構成論理を規定することで8万2600個の等サイズのステンレスタイルを数学的に位置づけPTBの9万平方メートルの連続した屋根をつくることを可能にした。PTBの内部は「キャニオン」、「メインターミナルビル(MTB)」、および「ウイング」の3つの連続した主要な空間から構成されている。MTB4階に設けられたテフロン膜でつくられたオープンエアダクトは、大空間で効率的な空調環境をつくるだけでなく照明の反射板として、出発ロビーにやわらかな間接光を落としている。
